F&F; as a brand name has become synonymous with good-quality high-street fashion at competitive prices. It has become hugely successful and is the brand name for clothing and accessories marketed by the supermarket chain Tesco. Tesco stores sell F&F; clothing and accessories the world over in 23 markets and are expanding further with stores opened in the Far East and China in recent years. Here we take a look at the f&f; brand in more detail.
The brand was born out of the highly successful Tesco chain of supermarkets so without Tesco there would be no f&f.; Originally the initials stood for Florence and Fred and made its first appearance in Britain in 2000 and then in Ireland the following year. Tesco itself started in 1919 when its founder, a grocer named Jack Cohen, established a chain of market stalls in England. The actual name of Tesco was not used until Cohen bought and marketed a shipment of tea. Which he purchased from one T E Stockwell. Cohen put the first three letters of this supplier together with the first two of his surname and Tesco was born.
Fast fashion is what F&F; proudly use to describe what the brand is all about. Affordable high quality fashion is another. Many leading supermarkets now carry their own lines of clothing and accessories and they share the common goal of trying to sell good quality fashionable items at competitive prices Tesco’s own brand.
F&F; strives to succeed at what it seeks to achieve with the brand by keeping a close eye on the latest trends and fashions and then incorporating them in affordable good-quality clothing. One of the key selling points is that affordable does not mean poor quality. Keeping prices down means buying items that are produced economically and this in turn means outsourcing to companies that operate in poorer economic climates. The ethical issues involved in this are something that F&F; have had to manage in order to preserve a credible and ethical image.
In creating their range of products, the brand employs its own team of designers and consultants who constantly research the latest trends and watch every move in the fashion world. This ensures that designs are current and will catch the eye of the customer by ensuring that there is always something new and up to date to explore.
F&F; have sought to ensure that their clothes and accessories are produced with all due consideration to ethical issues and those enshrined in the Code of Ethical Trading Initiative. This lays down standards and conditions that have to be met for employees. Factories and workshops have to be assessed by independent inspectors in order to be deemed to have met these standards F&F; only uses facilities that have been approved and meet the standards of the Code of Ethical Trading Initiative.
Perhaps one of the features that make the f&f; brand popular is its range. This encompasses clothing for women and children. The children’s range covers everything from baby clothes to those for teenagers and encompasses school uniform items. Virtually all sizes are catered for. As well as clothing the brand also features shoes scarves belts gloves and underwear. The popularity of the brand covers a wide range from those who want practical hard-wearing and affordable everyday clothing for work and leisure to more glamorous items that can be worn for social and leisure events and even be appropriate to give as gifts
